Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball splits weekend to earn first win

The Lancer men's volleyball team earned their first win of the season after splitting a weekend home series at the St. Denis Centre. The Lancers fell to the Queen's Gaels 3-1 (21-25, 21-25, 27-25, 21-25) on Saturday afternoon before sweeping the RMC Paladins 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-18) on Sunday.

On Saturday against Queen's, the Lancers played to their strengths, capitalizing on serves, making each attack count and using some great blocks to gain points throughout the set. However, in the end Queen's height and power proved too much for the Lancers as the visitors narrowly grabbed the set 25-21.

After dropping the second set, the Lancers came out strong in the third putting up seven straight points to throw the Gaels off of their game. Brad Gyemi dominated the net and the Gaels let their frustration get to them as the Lancers on the set in extra points.

In the fourth, the Lancers struggled to keep their serves in and it proves to be a big problem in the set as it allowed Queen's to get back into the game multiple times and eventually take the game.

On Sunday against the Paladins, the Blue & Gold dominated the first set from start to finish racking up 11 kills total and earning the 25-20 win.

In the second, Windsor got behind early but some huge hits from Gyemi and Shawn Reaume brought the Lancers back to life and back in the game at the technical timeout. Windsor continued their strong offensive play for the remainder of the game en route to their first win of the season.

The Lancers will now hit the road next weekend for a pair of games against the Waterloo Warriors on Friday and the McMaster Marauders on Saturday.
