The Lancer women's volleyball team extended their win streak to three with a pair of wins over the Queen's Gaels and RMC Panadins over the weekend.
With the victories, the Lancers are now 4-2 on the season and sit in a three way tie for first place in the OUA west division standings.
Windsor opened the weekend with a 3-2 (25-21, 25-23, 22-25, 20-25, 15-13) win over the visiting Gaels. The Lancers came out strong playing a solid defensive game to keep the Gaels at bay and take a 2-0 set lead.
Looking to prevent the sweep, the Gaels rebounded in the third and fourth sets by capitalizing on a few Lancer errors to tie the game at two sets a piece.
In the fifth,
Shannon Dean scored six straight points for the Blue & Gold as they took a quick 8-5 lead. Dean followed that up with two huge kills late in the set to secure the victory for Windsor.
On Sunday, the Lancers continued their winning ways defeating the RMC Paladins 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-17).
RMC opened the game with some strong serving that the Lancers struggled against. Frustrated with themselves, the Lancers allowed the Paladins to pull ahead and take the set 25-18.
Windsor re-grouped in the second and the addition of fourth year middle
Melissa Smyth brought some energy to the floor that was missing in the first set.
In the third, the Lancers maintained their momentum and huge blocks from Dean and Emily McClosky put the pressure on the Paladins. Although the Lancers struggled with their serving in the fourth set, a strong offensive and defensive combination prevailed as they secured the win.
The Lancers hit the road next weekend and will face the Waterloo Warriors on Friday night and the McMaster Marauders on Saturday evening.
