Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's Volleyball upsets Gee Gees

The Lancer women's volleyball team handed the Ottawa Gee Gees their first loss of the season after a convincing 3-0 (25-21, 29-27, 27-25) sweep of the hosts in Ottawa.

Windsor is now 2-2 on the season and is tied for third place in the OUA west division with the Guelph Gryphons.

The Gee Gees led early in the first set but struggled to find their groove, allowing the Lancers to get into their own swing of things and keep the set close. Windsor pulled away late in the frame to secure the game 25-21.

The second set was again a close knit battle as the teams traded points throughout. Ottawa had a chance to close the second set and tie the game but the Lancers would not go quietly pulled away in the last two rallies and went up 2-0 with a 29-27 victory.

Again neither team managed to convincingly separate themselves from the other in the third and in the end, Windsor won the last two rallies and take the final set 27-25.

Shannon Dean had a strong game for the Blue & Gold leading the way with 13 kills and 16 points. Defensively Emily Durand led the way with 19 digs, while Lindsay Morelli contributed 10.

The Lancers return home next weekend when they host the Queen's Gaels on Saturday November 13th & the RMC Paladins on Sunday November 14th. Both games are scheduled for 2:00pm at the St. Denis Centre.

Windsor will also honour the 2005-06 OUA Champion women's volleyball team at the game on Saturday against Queen's.
