Women's Hockey splits weekend road trip

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lancer women's hockey team split their final road games of the regular season against the Brock Badgers and Guelph Gryphons.

On Saturday, the Lancers edged the Badgers 2-1 before falling to the Gryphons 3-0 on Sunday.

Heading into their final weekend of the regular season, the Lancers are 13-5-4 on the year and sit in fifth spot in the very tight OUA standings.

After a scoreless first period against Brock, Candace Kourounis opened the scoring for the Lancers 11:43 into the middle stanza. Brock would then tie things just under 90 seconds into the third when Sophie Herbert scored her second goal of the season.

With only three penalties called throughout the entire contest, the game was a hard fought 5-on-5 battle. With just 1:36 left in regulation, Erinn Noseworthy found the back of the net to secure the win for the Blue & Gold.

The Lancers out-shot the Badgers 43-17 as Marissa Kozovski turned aside 16 shots for Windsor.

On Sunday, the Lancers had a number of opportunities to score but a strong performance from Guelph goaltender Stephanie Nehring spoiled their chances at getting on the board.

Windsor returns home next weekend for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday night at 7:30pm. Prior to Saturday's game the Lancers will honour their graduating seniors in a pre-game ceremony.
