Box Score 2 The Lancer women's volleyball team split their final games of the season, defeating the Nipissing Lakers 3-1 on Saturday before falling to the York Lions 3-0 on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Lancers lost the first set 22-25 to the Lakers, before regrouping in between sets to take the next three by scores of 25-14, 25-19, and 26-24.

The Blue & Gold were led by senior middle blocker
Melissa Smyth, who had 8 kills, 5 blocks and 2 aces en route to 15 points. Several players also hit double digits in kills, including third year middle blocker
Shannon Dean who finished the day with 11 kills, 4 aces, 15 points and second year right side hitter
Britney Raby with 12 kills, 13 points.

Defensively, left side hitters
Hannah Robson and
Carleigh Bailey led the pack, with 18 and 13 digs, respectively. Robson also contributed 10 kills and 12 points for the Lancers.

The Lakers had strong performances by second year left side Tracy Hammerton with 6 kills, and 5 aces, and middle blockers Brittany Ardon (7 kills, 5 blocks) and Annabelle Harvey (6 kills, 11 points).

On Sunday, the Lancers were swept by the York Lions, in a tough match-up at the Tait McKenzie Centre in Toronto.

In the first set, the Lancers found themselves trailing just 16-14 at the technical time out, before the Lions went on a run to put them up 20-14. Great serving by Dean and first year right side
Holly Clarke put the Lancers ahead 22-21, before the Lions' own strong serving gave them the first set win by a score of 25-22.

The second and third set saw the Lions beginning each with large leads, and taking the technical time outs 16-6 in both sets. The Lancers had trouble finding their groove, and lost the sets 12-25 and 14-25.

The Lancers were led by graduating senior Robson with 6 kills and 10 digs for 8 points in her final game wearing the Blue & Gold. Defensively, libero
Emily Durand also had 10 digs.

The Lions saw a great final performance by fifth year middle blocker Michelle Pierce with 10 kills and 15.5 points, as well as first year outside hitter Veneta Mincheva with 9 kills and 12.5 points.

The Lancers finish the season with a 6-13 record, in fifth place in the OUA West, and just out of a playoff spot.
