The Lancer men's soccer team opened up the 2015 season in fine form as they swept their weekend road trip with a pair of shut out victories over the Guelph Gryphons and Brock Badgers.

Windsor is now 2-0-0 to open the season and in first place in the OUA. They will hit the road once again next week when they take on the McMaster Marauders (1-1) and the York Lions (1-0).

The Lancers opened the weekend against the consistently strong Guelph Gryphons, who finished the 2014 season in third place in the OUA standings, and came out on top with a 1-0 victory.

Knowing they were in for a tough match, Windsor figured out how to control Guelph's attacking set up early on in the game and controlled the play for a majority of regulation. First year Lancer
Jamar Redhead scored his first OUA career goal in the 11th minute to give Windsor the lead.

With 25 minutes remaining in regulation, Windsor was dealt a huge blow when fourth year midfielder
Jack Sargent was issued a red card and ejected from the game. From there, the Lancers played a strong defensive game to hold on to the win.

Kyle Vizirakis faced 8 shots to earn the shut out in net.

On Sunday, the Lancers continued their strong play as they defeated the Brock Badgers 3-0.

Once again Windsor dominated the play and had a number of scoring chances throughout the match, but was stonewalled by Badger goaltender Matthew Zalkos. In the final minute of the first half, the Lancers broke through the wall as
Tony Falkestajn put one past Zalkos to give Windsor the lead heading into the break.

In the second, rookie Lancer
Leighton Speechley-Price had an impressive half scoring his first two OUA career goals five minutes apart to secure the Lancer victory.

The Lancer defense were perfect on the day as they held the Badgers to zero shots on net as Vizirakis earned his second shut-out of the weekend.

Following their road trip next weekend, the Lancers will open up the home portion of their schedule on Friday September 11th when they host the Waterloo Warriors at 8:15pm at Alumni Field.Â
