In their opening weekend, the Lancer women's soccer team split their first pair of games against the Guelph Gryphons and Brock Badgers.
Â
After dropping a 1-0 decision to the Gryphons in their season opener, the Lancers rebounded on Sunday to shut out the Badgers 2-0. Windsor is now 1-1-0 heading into their second week of competition.
Â
Windsor controlled much of the play in their opener but faced a tough Gryphon defense. Guelph's lone goal came with just three minutes left in regulation as they caught the Lancers on a breakaway. Windsor tried to get it back but was unable to come up with the equalizer.
Â
The Lancers fielded a young team against the Badgers with four rookies on the pitch at any given time. First year Lancer
Jordan Carr, who did not play against the Gryphons, had a tremendous game playing a full 90 minutes against Brock.
Â
Giulia Barile opened the scoring early in the first half with an unassisted goal just nine minutes into the contest. Windsor's second goal of the came later in the first half when rookie
Cassie Chretien scored her first OUA career goal in the 33rd minute.
Â
The Lancers will hit the road again next weekend for a pair of games against the McMaster Marauders and York Lions before returning home on Friday September 11th for their home opener against the Waterloo Warriors at 6:00pm on Alumni Field.Â
