Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Speechley-Price, Lancers shut out Warriors & Hawks

The Lancer men's soccer team swept their opening weekend at home with a pair of shutout victories over the Waterloo Warriors and Laurier Golden Hawks.

On Friday night the Lancers dominated the visiting Warriors with a 6-0 victory and followed that up with a 2-0 win over the Hawks on Sunday. Windsor is now 4-1-1 on the season and are currently tied for first place in the OUA west division with the #1 ranked York Lions.

On Friday, Leighton Speechley-Price continued his standout play recording his first OUA hat trick. Speechley-Price opened up the scoring just twelve minutes into the game and added his second just 13 seconds before the end of the first half.

Windsor held a dominating 5-0 lead heading into the break with other goal scorers including Jack Sargent and Michael Pio with two. Speechley-Price third goal of the game was the lone goal in the second half.

Lancer goaltender Kyle Vizirakis earned his first OUA career shutout in net.

On Sunday, the Lancers continued their strong play against the Golden Hawks. Speechley-Price again was on point scoring his fourth goal of the weekend and seventh of the season in the final minutes of the first half.

Laurier goaltender Jordan Brudlu came out of the net to challenge the Ireland native, however Speechley-Price was able to avoid the tackle and placed the ball into the right hand corner of the net.

With Windsor holding a one goal lead entering the second half, both teams came out aggressively. Midway through the half, Brudlu made an initial save on a shot from Iyowuna Jumbo but Kyle Ruggaber was there to knock in the rebound to increase the Lancer lead to two.

Kyle Ruggaber once again earned the shutout in net.

Windsor will now host the Algoma Thunderbirds (0-3-1) next weekend at Alumni Field. Both games will kick-off at 3:15pm on Saturday September 19th & Sunday September 20th.
