Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Windsor falls to Mustangs in London

The Lancer women's soccer team lost a tough 2-0 decision to the Western Mustangs on Wednesday night in London.

With the loss, the Lancers move to 4-5-0 on the season and remain tied for fourth with Guelph in the OUA west standings, while the Mustangs remain undefeated with a 7-0-2 record and in first place in the standings.

Rough play by the Lancers in their own box led to the referee calling a penalty kick for the host Mustangs.  Although Windsor keeper Krystin Lawrence chose the correct side of the net to dive, Western's Jenna White shot the ball low and directly into the right corner to give the Mustangs a one goal lead.

Although the Mustangs maintained control of play for most of the first half, Lawrence made some key saves throughout the half to keep the Lancers within reach.

Eager to fix the one goal deficit, the Lancers came hard into the second half. The visitors applied pressure to the Mustangs, making their way into the Western half on numerous occasions.

Despite the added offensive pressure the Western defence and goaltender Tori Edgar held off any Lancer opportunity to earn the shut out. On the other end of the field, Lawrence was busy facing seven shots and saving six in the second half.

The Lancers will now host the #6 ranked York Lions on Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm at Alumni Field.
