On the road for their second straight game to start the New Year, the Lancer women's basketball team defeated the host Guelph Gryphons 65-49 on Friday night in Guelph.
 
With the victory, Windsor is 6-3 on the year and are currently tied for first place in the OUA west division with the Western Mustangs. The loss drops the Gryphons to 5-4 and are in a two way tie for second place in the central division.
 
Windsor was led by Cheyanne Roger, who registered the games only double-double with 22 points and 16 rebounds. Emily Prevost chipped in 14 points in the victory, while senior Andrea Kiss was right behind her with 13 points.
 
The Lancers took control early in the game, dominating the Gryphons 23-14 after the first ten minutes. Guelph did not back down in the second quarter, and pushed the Lancer defense to the limit. Windsor led 44-25 at the half.
 
In the second half, Guelph opened the quarter with a 7-2 run to bring the score within four. The Lancer came charging back with their own 14-3 run to once again take control of the game and lead 51-39 after three quarters. From there, the Lancers maintained control for the remaining ten minutes to earn the victory.
 
Windsor shot 30.5% from the field compared to Guelph's 18.2%, and out-rebounded the hosts 48-36.
 
The Lancers will play their first home game of 2016 tomorrow night when they host the Algoma Thunderbirds and NBA Canada.
