The Lancer men's hockey team earned their third straight victory with a convincing 4-1 win over the Western Mustangs on Saturday night at South Windsor Arena.
Â
The victory propels the Lancers into second place in the OUA west division with a 4-2-0 record, while the Mustangs fall into a four way tie with a 3-2-0 record.
Â
The first period saw
Tyson Ness score for the Lancers after beating Western defenceman Jed Rusk to gain a break, sliding the puck past rookie goaltender Luke Peresinni.
Â
The Lancers continued to pressure Western in the second period.
Todd Ratchford struck midway through the period for Windsor on a wrist shot that beat Peresinni glove-side.
Â
Western managed to answer with a goal of their own, courtesy of Sean Callaghan, late in the period to climb to within one.
Â
However, Windsor would quickly respond to regain their two goal lead as
Justice Dundas tallied with under two minutes remaining in the period.
Â
Western pressed hard in the third period but Windsor goalie
Blake Richard kept the purple and white offence at bay. A power play only further tipped momentum in favour of the Lancers, with
Dylan Seguin recording the fourth Lancer goal of the evening.
Â
The Lancers outshot the Mustangs 47-35 by the end of the game, with Richard making 34 saves in net to secure the victory. Peresinni finished the game with 43 saves.
