Led by a two goal night from
Justice Dundas, the Lancer men's hockey team opened up their 2016-17 season with a hard fought 3-2 victory over the visiting Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday night at South Windsor Arena.
Â
Just one game into the season, the Lancers will now host the Ryerson Rams on Saturday night. Puck is scheduled to drop at 7:30pm and can be seen live on
www.oua.tv.
Â
The Lancers opened the scoring right away, getting on the board just 34 seconds into regulation. Dundas notched his first of the season off a pass from
Tyson Ness and rookie
Chadd Bauman.
Â
Windsor increased their lead to two four minutes later when Dundas would strike again on Blues goaltender Andrew Hunt at 4:16 of the opening frame.
Â
Sebastian Beauregard added his first of the season late in the second to increase the Lancer lead to three heading into the third period.
Â
The Varsity Blues came out flying in the third when Dean Klomp scored his own marker off the face-off 37 seconds into the period. Toronto continued to push for the comeback, and with just four seconds remaining in a Blues power play, Ryan Kirkup accepted a pass from Josh Hanson and Klomp to bring the game within one with just over 15 minutes to play.
Â
Despite the rising tension and a number of penalties on both sides, the Lancers managed to hold off the visiting Blues to earn their first win of the season.
Â
Lancer goaltender
Blake Richard made 32 saves in his season debut for the win, while Hunt turned aside 28 shots for Toronto.
Â
Windsor returns to the ice again tomorrow night when they host the Ryerson Rams at 7:30pm. The gate opens at 6:30pm, and fans can still purchase season tickets at the gate for just $50.
