Lancers sweeps opening weekend

The Lancer women's basketball team opened the 2016-17 season in grand fashion with a pair of dominating road victories. Windsor came away with a 81-39 win over the host Nipissing Lakers on Friday before defeating the Laurentian Voyageurs 67-41 on Saturday in Sudbury. 
 
Friday vs Nipissing
Windsor was led by Carly Steer who came off the bench to lead all scorers with 20 points. The third year guard contributed five rebounds, two steals and had the teams only block, while shooting 5-for-11 from the three point line.
 
Rookie Kayah Clarke also had an impressive debut with the Blue & Gold going 9-for-11 to register 18 points, three rebounds and a steal. Cheyanne Roger also hit double digits with 11 points and three rebounds.
 
Windsor came out fast and strong building a 23-9 lead after the first quarter. After an almost identical second quarter, the Lancers continued to dominate the floor en route to their 42-point win.

Saturday vs Laurentian
The first half was a tight affair with the Lancers holding a narrow one point lead, 24-23, heading into the break. In the second half, the Lancers exploded outscoring the hosts 24-6 to build 48-31 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Laurentian rebounded in the final ten minutes, but the Lancers continued to play a strong defensive game to sustain their lead to the end. 

Clarke led all scorers with 17 points with the rest of the scoring being distributed evenly amongst the rest of the team. Emily Prevost was the only player to hit double digits in rebounds, leading the game with 10.
