Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Lancers double up on Lions

The Lancer women's hockey team earned their fourth win of the regular season defeating the York Lions 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at South Windsor Arena. Natalie Barrette (1G, 1A), Taylor Conte (1G, 1A) and Kennedy Snively (2A) all had multi-point games.

The win puts the Lancers 4-0-4-1 in OUA play and in fifth place in competitive OUA standings, while the Lions fall to 1-1-5-2.

The Lancers came out strong, scoring three times in the first period. Taylor Conte opened the scoring at 2:29 of the first period to give the Lancers an early lead with Ashley Maitre and Gina Davis assisting on the play. Emily Bowman was quick to follow and put the Lancers ahead 2-0 at 3:01 with help from Kennedy Snively.

The Lancers continued to dominate the first putting 11 shots on net and closing the period with Erinn Noseworthy's powerplay goal in her first game of the season at 15:55.

The second period saw the visitors own a 9-8 shot advantage. The Lions started the period strong with a powerplay goal by Taylor Davison at 1:52, but it didn't take long for the Lancers to answer back and regain their three goal lead. Natalie Barrette registered a goal at 4:09 with helpers to Snively and Conte. The remainder of the second period was scoreless with penalties traded back and forth between the Lancers and the Lions.

It was a slow start to the third period with the first shot not fired until eight minutes in. The Lions pulled goalie their goaltender Lauren Dubie with 6:09 left on the clock after stopping 21 shots. York was unable to capitalize on a two-player advantage after a Lancer penalty in the final three minutes of play. However, York's Rianna Langford tallied just five seconds after the penalty expired. The goal was assisted by Taylor Davison at 19:39 and cut the Lancers lead to two.

Windsor held on despite being outshot 9-6 in the third to defeat the Lions 4-2. Morgan Farrow had 24 saves in the win.

The Lancers are back in action tomorrow when they face the Waterloo Warriors on the road at 2:30pm. The game can be viewed at www.oua.tv.
