A late push by the Lancers came up just short as they fell 3-2 Waterloo Warriors on Sunday afternoon at the Columbia Ice Field.
Â
Waterloo owned the opening 35 minutes while Windsor pushed on the gas in the final 25 but the Warriors were able to hang on for the victory. The Lancers dropped to 4-5-1 on the season, while Waterloo improved to 7-3-0.
Â
GAME FLOW
The opening goal came at the 14:53 mark as Carolyn Burke picked up a rebound off the shot of Alyssa Gee and roofed it on the power play. Burke netted her second of the game four minutes into the second on the power play, Waterloo's league leading 10th PP goal of the season.Â
Â
Ten minutes later, the Warriors made it 3-0 as Rebecca Rutherford made a deke to the backhand and slid it past
Molly Jenkins.Â
Â
The Lancers would not go away though putting one past Warriors goaltender Taylor Reimer with just 18 seconds left in the period as
Krystin Lawrence snuck one in after the puck appeared to hit the crossbar and then Reimer's back, trickling across the line.
Â
Up 3-1 with 20 to play Waterloo went into defensive mode but Windsor was able to break the Warriors down as
Jillian Rops found herself all alone in front and made no mistake on her own rebound to make it a one goal game.
Â
The Lancers kept coming in the final five minutes but Reimer stood tall to secure the win for the black and gold. Jenkins turned aside 21 shots in the loss, while Reimer would make 24 saves for the win.
