Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Lancers split two overtime road games

On a very long road trip up the 401, the Lancer women's hockey team split their weekend games after both contests went into overtime.

On Saturday night, the Lancers dropped a 3-2 decision to the Queen's Gaels before rebounding on Sunday to defeat the UOIT Ridgebacks 5-4 in a high scoring affair.

The split leaves the Blue & Gold with a 4-1-5-2 record that places them in a two-way tie for sixth place in the OUA standings.

SATURDAY VS QUEEN'S
In the first period, the Gaels had majority of the scoring opportunities, out-shooting the Lancers 10-6. In spite of a number of close chances, the period remained scoreless.

In the second period, the Lancers were first to get on the board when Ashley Maitre scored for Windsor on a rebound. Krystin Lawrence and Shawna Lesperance assisted on the play. However, on the next play, Queen's responded when Addi Halladay scored a goal off the following faceoff at centre ice. Both goals were scored four-on-four. Several minutes after Queen's tied the game the Lancers once again took the lead. Erinn Noseworthy scored on a backhand shot to give the Lancers a 2-1 lead. Kennedy Snively assisted on the goal. The Lancers had a 2-1 advantage at the end of the period.

In the third period, Halladay found the back of the net for her second of the game on a snapshot to draw even again at 2-2. The Lancers had a power play opportunity near the end of the game but were unable to capitalize on the man advantage, sending the game into overtime.

Two minutes into the extra frame, McKellar scored for Queen's on an end-to-end rush to win the game.

SUNDAY VS UOIT
The Lancers came from behing on Sunday afternoon to defeat the Ridgebacks in overtime. UOIT built a two goal lead by 1:02 of the second period before the Lancers got on the board. Although they trailed by two goals, the Lancers were out-shooting the hosts and just seven minutes after the Ridgebacks second goal Windsor turned things around in their favour.

In those seven minutes, Danielle Butler scored her second goal of the year, and Krystin Lawrence added two goals to put the Lancers up 3-2. UOIT tied the game with 7:03 to go in the period, but the Lancers answered with one of their own. On the power play, Shawna Lesperance scored her fifth of the season unassisted at the 16:00 mark to give the Lancers a 4-3 lead through two periods.

It looked like that is where the game would finish, but the Ridgebacks pulled Tori Campbell in the final minute, and Nicole LoPresti potted her third of the season with just 12 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime.

It didn't take long for the Lancers to secure the victory as Erinn Noseworthy scored the game-winning goal for Windsor at the 3:41 mark of the first overtime period.

Molly Jenkins and Morgan Farrow shared the duties in net for the Blue & Gold making 20 saves between the two of them.
