In their final home game of 2016, the Lancer women's hockey team fell to the No. 4 Guelph Gryphons 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at South Windsor Arena.
Â
The Gryphons struck first early on a long slap shot scored by Katherine Bailey
Â
Not to fall behind, the Lancers evened the score late in the first on a goal scored by
Erinn Noseworthy. Assists were credited to
Reagan Kaufman and
Ashley Maitre.
Â
After Guelph scored just two minutes into the second period, the frame was very back and forth for both teams although no one could capitalize on several power play opportunities.
Â
In the third, Guelph scored three unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead late in the period. With under a minute to go,
Krystin Lawrence managed to get one past goaltender Valerie Lamenta to end the game on a positive note for the Blue & Gold.
Â
Morgan Farrow took the loss in net or the Lancers with 11 saves, while Lamenta had 22 saves for Guelph to earn the win.
Â
The Lancers are back in action tomorrow in London to take on the Western Mustangs as they close out their 2016 half of the season. Puck drops at 4:00pm and can be seen on
