The Lancer men's basketball team was edged by the Laurier Golden Hawks 67-66 on Saturday afternoon in Waterloo, ON.
Â
The loss moves the Lancers to 3-3 on the season, while the Hawks improve to 4-3 and sit just above Windsor in the OUA west division standings.
Â
The Hawks built a 12-7 lead midway through the first, but the Lancers were able to capitalize on some poor shot and pass selection from Laurier, going on an extended run, leading 20-14 after the first and pushing it to 32-18 at a point in the second quarter.
The Hawks used home court advantage in the back half of the second quarter to bring Windsor's 14-point lead to just five heading into the break. Laurier carried that momentum into the third quarter, and held a five point lead, 53-48, heading into the final quarter.
Lucas Orlita and
Micqueel Martin bombarded the Laurier defense throughout the final quarter keeping the game tight. A Hawks three and a layup seemed to put the game out of reach for the Lancers late in the quarter, but a chaotic series of events over the final minute saw Windsor bring the game within one with three seconds left. Unfortunately, Martin's shot off the buzzer hit the rim to give the hosts the win.
Orlita led the way for the Blue & Gold with 19 points, while Martin was right behind him with 18.
Tyler Persaud also hit double digits with 13 points, while
Randy Oriakhi came off the bench for ten.

The Lancers will now travel to Toronto on Wednesday November 30th to take on the Toronto Varsity Blues at 8:00pm live on
