Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Windsor wins 5-set nail-biter over York

The Lancer men's volleyball team closed out the home portion of their regular season schedule with a dramatic five set victory over the visiting York Lions on Sunday afternoon.

The 3-2 (20-25, 25-14, 26-24, 23-25, 15-11) win is the Lancers third straight as their record improves to 6-10 and they continue to fight for the final playoff spot in the OUA post season.

Prior to the game, the team honoured their graduating seniors Blasé Wasser, Shawn Reaume, and Josh Edwards for their contribution and dedication to the team over their five years with the program.

After dropping the first set, the Lancers came storming back in the second as Wasser served ten straight points to give Windsor a comfortable lead, en route to the 25-14 set win.

Windsor carries their momentum into the third set and builds an early lead off some impressive kills by newcomer Fabian Buck. The Lions remain focused, however, and come back from a five point deficit to send the game into extra points.

The fourth set went point for point, making for some long and exciting rallies. York's Arthur Szwarc came up big for the visitors to force a fifth and deciding set.

Brad Gyemi delivered early for the Lancers offensively, coming up big with huge blocks and kills, as the Lancers pulled ahead 7-3. The Lions fought back but Windsor was able to keep the lead with strong serving from Buck.

The Blue & Gold were led by Gyemi with 20 kills and 8 digs, while Edwards finished with 15 kills and seven blocks. Tyler Covach was the Lions top performer with 15 kills and 6 digs, while Szwarc finished the game with 14 kills and two blocks.

The Lancers will now travel to Kingston to face the RMC Paladins and Queen's Gaels next weekend.
