The Lancer women's soccer team open the 2016 season undefeated following a shut out victory over the Brock Badgers in their season opener, and a 1-1 tie against McMaster on Sunday.
Â
Heading into Labour Day weekend, Windsor is tied for second place with the Western Mustangs with identical 1-0-1 records.
Â
In their home opener on Saturday, Windsor's back four played a strong defensive line as the Lancers dominated the first half, only allowing Brock into their area for a minimal amount of time.
Â
Becca Fuerth scored the Lancers' first goal of the season after making a move to get away from her Brock defender, sending the ball into the top corner with a shot just inside the 18 yard box.
Â
In the second,
Keely Baggio was awarded a free kick after Brock was assessed a foul outside the 18 yard box, which led to the Lancers second goal of the afternoon.
Â
On Sunday,
Abby Hunt created many chances for herself to get the Lancers on the board but wasn't able to find the back of the net.
Â
Windsor goaltender
Krystin Lawrence was very aggressive and solid in net rejecting each of McMaster's shots.
Â
The Marauders got on the board first in the second half when they scored off a deflected shot that landed at the feet of Maila Carboni who found the back of the net.
Â
Jazmin Martin scored her first goal of the season in the 85th minute when
Cassie Chretien crossed the ball in front of the net to set up the tying goal.
Â
The Lancers will now hit the road on Wednesday and travel up to London to take on the Western Mustangs at 6:00pm.
