Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's Hockey tops Lions

The Lancers women's hockey team was victorious in their game against the York Lions Saturday afternoon in Toronto. Windsor won the match with a score of 3-2.

During the first period of play, both Windsor and York were unable to get anything going with 9 and 11 shots on goal respectively, none of which that found the back of the net.

Windsor is not 8-1-8-2 and is in sixth place in the OUA standings, while the Lions fall to 3-2-9-4.

It wasn't until Krystin Lawrence started the scoring off at 4:54 in the second with her 17th goal of the season that the deadlocked score was broken. Natalie Barrette was credited with the assist.  Erinn Noseworthy also added a goal of her own with 28 seconds remaining in the period to put the Lancers up 2-0 heading into the third.

York got on the board in the third period at 5:18 with a power play goal from Leah Hibbert. Windsor fought hard until the end, adding an insurance goal from Lawrence to regain the two goal lead.

Windsor's third goal benefited the Blue & Gold because just 14 seconds later, and with just 25 seconds remaining in regulation, the Lions added another marker from Dana Somerville. The hosts took another turn to tie the game, but the Lancers held them off to earn the victory.

Lancers will now head to St. Catharines where they will take on the Brock Badgers tomorrow at 2:15pm.
