The Lancers women's hockey team went 2-0 this weekend following a 2-1 victory over the Brock Badgers on Sunday afternoon in St. Catharines.
Â
The sweep moves the Lancers to 9-1-8-2 as they now sit in fourth place in the OUA standings.
Â
Windsor struck early in the game, with their first goal coming just 2:01 into the first period. With the goalie's view blocked by both Lancers and Badgers, Windsor's
Sydney Dobbins was able to squeak a goal past the Brock goalie.
Â
The second period was full of opportunities for Brock to tie the game, as Windsor racked up four penalties. At 11:16 into the period, both Dobbins and Kristyn Lawrence were handed two minute penalties, giving Brock the 5-3 advantage. Luckily for the Lancers, the Badgers were unable to capitalize on this and were shut out for the period.
Â
Lawrence added an insurance goal for the Lancers in the 10 minute mark during the third period when she came over the blue line on a breakaway. Two head fakes on the way to the net secured the goal for the league's leading scorer. Brock answered with a power play goal of their own, but they were unable to tie the game as the Lancer came away with the win.
Â
The Lancers are now on hiatus until February 10th & 11th when they are at home in their final home stand where they will take on the visiting Queen's Gaels and UOIT Ridgebacks.
