In the final event of the Lancers 10th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Day, the Lancer men's basketball team lost to the visiting Ottawa Gee Gees 78-64 at the St. Denis Centre.
Â
Following the weekend, Windsor is now tied for first place in the OUA west division with the Laurier Golden Hawks with identical 8-8 records. The Gee Gees continue to remain in second place in the north division, one game behind the top ranked Carleton Ravens.
Â
Although the Lancers did not come away with the win, the Blue & Gold rebounded nicely from their Friday night loss to play a very well rounded and well executed game.
Â
For the majority of the first half, the game was a shootout with the teams trading blows, many of which coming from behind the arc for both teams.
Â
Windsor did a good job at keeping pace with the No. 3 Gee-Gees early, but as both teams' shooting started to cool, it was rebounds and high percentage looks that guided Ottawa to victory.
Â
The Lancers were led by
Micqueel Martin with 14 points, while the
Mike Rocca chipped in 13 points and
Mitch Farrell had 12.
Â
Windsor will now break until Wednesday February 8th when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks in a pivotal first place match-up in the Clash at the Colosseum at Caesars Windsor. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00pm.
Â
Tickets for the game can be purchased by visiting the Athletic Department, Monday – Friday between 8:30am – 4:30pm. Season ticket holders are also asked to trade in their February 8th game ticket for a specific game ticket. This can also be done by visiting the department of athletics during those same hours.
