The No. 7 Lancer women's basketball team fell to the visiting No. 5 Queen's Gaels 73-56 on Saturday evening at the St. Denis Centre.
Â
Windsor remains at the top of the standings in the OUA west division despite the loss with a 8-2 record, while the Gaels remain the only undefeated team in the conference with an 8-0 record.
Â
Tied at eight halfway through first, Lancer head coach Chantal Vallee called a time out to regroup. Although
Carly Steer came out of the break to score a three, Queen's went on an 11-7 run to lead 19-15 after ten minutes.
Â
Queen's continued to pressure the Blue & Gold throughout the second quarter, twice stopping the Lancers from in bounding the ball and going on another run (12-2) early on in the quarter to build a 41-23 lead at the half.
Â
Windsor continued to struggle throughout the third quarter before rebounding in the fourth to outscore the Gaels 25-19 in the final ten minutes. The push wasn't enough, however, as the Gaels earlier dominance earned them the win.
Â
Lancers were led by rookie
Kayah Clarke with 14 points and 3 rebounds, and
Emily Prevost with a double-double 12 points and 10 rebounds. Queen's was led by Abby Dixon 15 points.
Â
The Lancers will now host the Western Mustangs on Wednesday, January 11th as part of Rivalry Night and the Lancer Beach Party. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm and fans are encouraged to wear Hawaiian clothing to participate in the event.
