Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lancers swept in nation's capital

The Windsor Lancer's men's basketball team made the trek to the nation's capital to take on the No. 1 Carleton Ravens Friday and No. 9 . The Lancers were looking to get back in the win column after dropping their last game to Western, however, despite an early 6-0 lead and some solid defense, the Lancers fell 97-83 to Carleton.

FRIDAY VS CARLETON
The Lancers started the game off strong, coming out the gates on a 6-0 run. Unfortunately, it would be one of the last times the Lancers saw the lead.  The Lancers were paced by the guard tandem of Rocca and Jones who each netted 10 points for the Lancers in the first half. Windsor had a great first half shooting the ball, going 50 per cent from the field. The Ravens were led by Yaslin Joseph who put up 17 for Carleton as the Ravens went for 46 per cent from the field.

In the second half the Lancers defense stepped up their game, only surrendering 34 per cent of shots from the field in the second half. Luckily for the Ravens Eddie Ekiyor had no problem scoring in the second half as Ekiyor scored 16 points in the final half. The Lancers second half effort on defense was remarkable, unfortunately the deficit would prove insurmountable as the Lancers lost 97-83.

Mike Rocca led the Lancers with 21 points, while Marcus Jones put up 19. Chris Poloniato came off the bench to score 12, and Lucas Orlita also hit double digits with 11.

Carleton's Eddie Ekiyor led all scorers with 25 points. Ekiyor also posted a double-double bringing down 13 boards.

The Lancer defense held the Ravens to a stingy 17 per cent on three point attempts in the second half, while making 29 per cent of their three pointers. Despite that, however, Windsor was out-rebounded 53-32 by the Ravens.

SATURDAY VS OTTAWA
In the first half the Lancers were able to keep the play even, and despite no starters leading the team in points, the Lancers found a way to lead after the first quarter. Windsor was led by Polioniato and his 11 points off the bench in the first half. Despite some offensive struggles, the Lancers played themselves to first half tie with both teams heading to the break at 35 each.

In the second half the Lancers offensive woes continued, shooting 36 per cent from the field after the break. The Gee Gees on the other hand were starting to get hot. Ottawa shot a red hot 50 per cent from the field in the second half, making 20 of their 40 field goal attempts. Paced by Sean Stoqua's 13 second half points the Gee Gees were able to push past the Lancers and win the game,91-73.

Lucas Orlita led the Lancers in scoring with 16 points. Sean Stoqua led all scorers, netting 21 points for the Gee Gees. Ottawa's Jean Emmanuel Pierre-Charles notched a double-double, pairing his 20 points with 11 boards on the night.

The Lancers were held to 37 per cent shooting on the night while Ottawa made 44 per cent of their looks .

Up next the Lancers continue their tour of Ontario, stopping in Kingston next Friday, Nov. 24 to take on the Queen's Gaels at 8:00pm before heading to Toronto to take on York the next day at the same time. Both games can be seen at OUA.tv.
