Goaltenders
Molly Jenkins and Tareya Webster kept the score close throughout the game, making 35 and 30 saves respectively, but a second period goal from Western's Rachel Armstrong allowed the Mustangs to secure a 2-1 victory against the Lancers on Friday night at South Windsor Arena.
Â
With the loss, the Lancers are still looking for their first regulation time victory heading into Saturday's afternoon contest against the Laurier Golden Hawks.
Â
GAME FLOW
The Mustangs dominated play in the first frame, but it was the Lancers who netted the first puck of the game. After difficulty clearing their zone, Windsor managed to rush down the ice, and
Reagan Kaufman scored nine minutes in on her team's second shot of the night.
Â
Western responded to Windsor's goal before the buzzer signalled the end of the first period.Â
Â
The Mustangs deked Lancer defenders to make a move on Jenkins. She saved the first shot, but Lindsey O'Neill persisted and tied up the game with six minutes remaining on the clock.
Â
Three minutes in to the second frame, Western moved ahead of Windsor on the scoreboard. Rachel Armstrong scored her second goal of the season and the last point of the night.
Â
Jenkins and Webster dominated the final frame, neither letting in a single shot. The goalies are largely responsible for the close, and relatively low score, in what was a high-shot game.
