Lancers lose heart-breaker to Queen's

The Windsor Lancers women's volleyball team hit the court on Saturday evening eager to stay in the win column after a three set victory against RMC Friday night.  Both Windsor and the visiting Queen's Gaels threw everything they had at each other, with the Lancers forcing a fifth set after a dramatic comeback, however, the Gaels would take it 3-2 (25-20, 17-25, 21-25, 26-24 and 10-15).

GAME STATS
Lancer Libero Carleigh Bailey put forth a dominating defensive effort, recording 40 digs for the Lancers. Shannon Neville led the way for Queen's with 19 digs.

Olivia Van Barren and Shannon Neville each led the Gaels in kills with 18 each. Emily McCloskey and Jade Ziebarth led the Lancers with 11 each.

The Lancers recorded 13 team blocks while the Gaels recorded seven.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers came out and looked much like the team from last night in the first set. The Lancers were led by Jade Ziebarth who scored five kills for the Lancers early. The Blue and Gold recorded 14 kills on their way to taking the first set 25-20.

In the second set the Queen's offense went to work, recording 14 kills in the set.  Led by Shannon Neville's eight kills, the visitors from Kingston built a large lead on the Lancers midway through the second set. With Queen's keeping service for most of the set the Lancers couldn't do enough to close the gap and lost the second set by a score of 25-17.

In the third set the Lancers came out and played better along the net and put together some better rallies. The Lancers offense however only scored eight kills to the Gaels' 18 kills. Queen's took the third set 25-21.

In the fourth set the match looked to be just about over when Queen's took a commanding 18-8 lead over the Lancers. With their backs to the wall the Lancers dug deep and came back with 5-1 run to make the score 19-13 for the Gaels. The Lancers comeback effort would persist until they tied the game at 24. The Lancers comeback was complete when a ball ricocheted off a Queen's player out of bounds.

Despite the stunning and dramatic comeback in the fourth set, the Lancers fell to Queen's in the fifth set, 15-10, losing the match by a score of 3-2.
