The No. 9 Lancer women's basketball team kept to their winning ways with a pair of road victories over the weekend. Windsor defeated the Waterloo Warriors 58-37 on Friday night and the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday, 72-64.
Â
The two wins move the Lancers to an 11-3 regular season and they continue to remain one game ahead of Lakehead and McMaster for first place in the OUA west division. Â Â
Â
FRIDAY vs Waterloo
In an unusually low scoring game, Windsor and Waterloo struggled to find the net throughout the match. In the second quarter alone, the two teams combined for just 15 points. Windsor led 21-17 at halftime.
Â
The third quarter was all
Emily Prevost, as she scored all but two of the Lancers field goals in the frame. Prevost led all scorers finishing the game with 15 points, nine of which came in the third. She also had a game high 12 rebounds.
Â
Tyra Blizzard also hit double digits with ten points, while
Olivia Osamusali also finished the game with a dozen rebounds.
Â
SATURDAY vs Guelph
The Lancers produced some large stretches throughout the game that challenged the fifth place Gryphons throughout the game.
Â
The Lancers went on an 11-0 run to take a 21-12 lead before Guelph snapped the Gryphons' offensive drought with a jumper from the elbow. But Windsor started the second quarter off with another 5-0 run to take a 26-14 lead.
Â
Leading by only four points late in the third quarter, 51-47, the Lancers went on a 9-2 run to take a ten point lead heading into the final frame. They would extend that lead in the fourth, going up by as many as 19 points as the Gryphons had a hard time finding any consistent offence.
Â
Osamusali was a problem for the Gryphons, scoring 13 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Once again Prevost led all athletes with game-highs of 18 points and 13 rebounds.
