The Lancer women's hockey team fell to the host Toronto Varsity Blues 5-3 in their OUA regular season opener Saturday night in Toronto.

The Lancers wasted no time getting out to a 2-0 lead as Alex Reiter and
Lexi Contratto scored in the first 3:34 of the game. Windsor extended their lead to three with an
Amy Maitre powerplay goal with 4:45 to go in the first period.

The Blues managed to get on the board before the first intermission as Stephanie Ayres banged in a cross-crease pass from rookie Taylor Trussler. Windsor was up 3-1 after 20 minutes.

The Blues evened the score with two goals four minutes apart in the second period. Lauren Straatman scored on a tic-tac-toe play on the powerplay, before Kassie Roache tipped in a shot to tie it.

Toronto potted the go-ahead goal just 1:16 into the third period before adding an insurance marker to take the win.
