The Lancers women's basketball team came out strong in their season debut against the Waterloo Warriors, winning 70-49.
Â
The Lancers had a 20-4 record last year, as they tied with McMaster for first in the OUA west, and they look poised to continue where they left off last season. The Warriors acted as a good test before the blue and gold head down to McMaster on Oct. 27 to face off against the Marauders.

GAME STATS
Tyra Blizzard played a great game on both ends of the court, as the senior guard put up 17 points, two assists and four rebounds, while shooting 62.5% from the field and 50% from beyond the three.
Â
Eve Owayesu also made her share of contributions on both offence and defence, scoring 11 points and grabbing 6 boards.
Â
GAME FLOW
The Lancers came out with heavy offence, going for a 10-0 run right out of the gate.
Â
The Warriors showed some signs of competition early on as they narrowed the score to within four points at the end of the first quarter. However, that was the closest the score would be for the rest of the game, as the blue and gold ran away with it.
Â
The Lancers ended the first half with a 38-19 lead, having had a dominant performance from the field, including five baskets from beyond the three.
Â
Going into the third quarter saw some letting up from the Lancers on both ends of the court, allowing the Warriors to bring themselves to within eight points before the Lancers found their rhythm from the first half, and went for another 11 point run.
Â
There was no letting up from there as the blue and gold continued their dominant performance through the fourth quarter to finish the game with a 70-49 victory.
