Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Hockey defeats Ridgebacks

After suffering their first two losses of the season last week to the UQTR Patriots, the Lancers men's hockey team came out on top of the first game of this weekend's double header against the UOIT Ridgebacks, 7-4.

The high offensive tilt puts the blue and gold in third place in the OUA West with a 4-2 record, trailing the Ryerson Rams and the Brock Badgers.

GAME STATS
The offensive onslaught was a team effort with 10 players contributing points for the Lancers. However, Brennan Feasey led the team with a goal and two assists, for a total of three points.

Alex Friesen was also a key contributor for Windsor's offence, scoring two goals that helped the team secure the win.

The Lancers saw great success on the power play, scoring on three of their four opportunities. UOIT was only able to convert on one of their four chances with the extra man.

Lancer goaltender Jonathan Reinhart made 25 saves in net to earn the win.

GAME FLOW
The Ridgebacks were quick to start the scoring, finding the back of the net only 28 seconds into the game.

However, the blue and gold immediately took control of the period scoring four straight goals, two of which being on the power play.

The second period started the same way with UOIT getting a quick power play goal 30 seconds into the period to stop the bleeding from the first frame. The Ridgebacks managed to put another goal on the board before John Wesley put the puck past the UOIT goaltender to close the second period 5-3.

The third period proved to be a strong offensive battle for the two teams, with the Ridgebacks scoring with less than eight minutes left in the game, bringing them within one.

From there both teams saw several scoring opportunities, but it was Alex Friesen who found the back of the net to once again put the Lancers up by two with a 1:30 left in the game.

With 30 seconds left, Ryan Shaw scored the empty net goal securing the win for the Windsor Lancers.
