In the first game of their double header weekend against the Western Mustangs, the Lancers men's hockey team headed to London where they fell 5-1 in a heated matchup.
Â
The first period saw the Lancers pinned in their zone. However, a strong defensive coverage saw the Lancers contain the Mustangs to the perimeter. After two back to back goals for the Mustangs half way through the period, the blue and gold made an offensive push of their own. An impressive display of puck movement saw Lancer Justice Dundas score the team's only goal of the night to end the period.
Â
The Mustangs continued to pressure the Lancers offensively, scoring two more goals in the second period.
Â
Tensions began rise in the third period, starting with Mustang Trevor Warnaar taking a butt-ending penalty, putting the Lancers on a five minute power play. The Lancers were unable to capitalize on the opportunity, but a continued back and forth saw the two teams engage in a series of altercations to end the period.
Â
The final score ended 5-1 for the Mustangs, and set up an exciting foundation for their next game this Saturday.
