The Windsor Lancers kicked off their home slate of the 2018 football season under cloudy skies and some uncooperative lightning. After a 45 minute delay the Lancers kicked off their 50th anniversary against the Carleton Ravens.
Windsor had some tremendous plays throughout the day, and held tight to throughout the full 60-minutes, but fell short against the Ravens, 38-20.
GAME STATS
Sam Girard put together a good game, throwing for 284 yards and two touchdowns to two interceptions on 25/49 passing.
Kaeden Walls led the way offensively for the Lancers with 94 yards receiving and a touchdown.
Tristan Carter also found the end zone and finished the game with 57 yards in the air on seven catches.
Matt Gayer had the biggest impact on defense, making 9.5 tackles and forcing a fumble.
For the visitors, Michael Arruda threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns on 16/31 passing, while Nathan Carter had a fantastic day, rushing for 115 yards on 22 carries and finding his way to pay dirt once. Defensively, Denis Walsh led the way for the Ravens with 9 tackles and a half a sack.
GAME FLOW
The Lancers started things off well, taking their first drive inside the 10 yard line. Girard picked up right where he left off against Waterloo, spreading the ball and keeping the chains moving. The Lancers grabbed the lead with an early chip shot field goal.
The next 12 points of the half went to the Ravens as they capitalized on a few Lancer errors.
Clark Green added a 34-yard field goal five minutes into the quarter, and then late in the half, Girard connected with Carter for a 12-yard touchdown pass to put the Lancers up 13-12 heading into the break.
Windsor had a rough start to the second half with Girard tossing his the first two interceptions of his season. Carleton capitalized on both opportunities to go up 26-13.
Despite a fantastic touchdown to
Kaeden Walls at 9:46 of the third to shrink the lead, the Lancers couldn't complete a comeback, falling 38-20 at home.
