Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Lancers dominate Thunderwolves

The Lancer men's hockey team remain undefeated in 2019 following a dominating 8-2 win over the Lakehead Thunderwolves Friday night at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.

The win moves the Lancers just ahead of the Thunderwolves in the OUA west division standings as they head into game two of the weekend doubleheader on Saturday night.

GAME STATS
Lancer goalie Johnathan Reinhart earned the win in net making 30 saves on 32 shots. Both Lakehead net minders Devin Green and Nic Reynard made 11 stops on 17 shots and 2 stops on 4 shots, respectively.

Overall the Lancers barely outshot the Thunderwolves 32-21.

Ryan Shaw led the way offensively with two goals and one assist for the Lancers.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers got things going almost before anyone could blink. Shaw beat Lakehead's Devin Green just 26 seconds into the game to put the Lancers up 1-0. And then, just 39 seconds later at 1:05, Ethan Skinner netted a goal to extend the lead. Before the two-minute mark Brennan Feasey scored again for the blue and gold, forcing Lakehead into a goalie change. Despite the goalie change, the Lancers found twine once again as Conor Logan beat Nic Reynard to put the Lancers up 4-1.

The Thunderwolves finally returned fire when Jordan King was left all alone on a breakaway, beating Reinhart. Any celebration on the visitor's side was short-lived however as Skinner netted his second goal of the game late in the frame to put the Lancers up 5-1 at first intermission.

Though the second period didn't produce the fireworks the first period did, it was still an entertaining bit of hockey. Cooper Leitch cut into the lead for the Thunderwolves midway through the frame. Just like the previous Lakehead goal, the celebration was short lived as Kyle Hope netted his first goal of the game to put the Lancers back up by four. A second goal by both Feasey and Shaw in the third was the last nail in an impressive 8-2 win to keep the Lancers undefeated in the new year.
