Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Lancers upset by Thunderwolves

It was a contest of goaltenders for the second matchup of the weekend between the Windsor Lancer's men's hockey team and the Lakehead Thunderwolves. With the Lancers taking the first game the night before 8-2, both teams were looking to seize the fifth place position in the OUA West. Unfortunately, the Lancers were unable to complete the sweep falling 2-1.

The loss drops the Lancers into sixth, trailing the Thunderwolves by one point.

GAME STATS
Jonathan Reinhart saved 36 of the 38 shots he faced, while on the other side of the ice Nic Renyard also made 36 saves of the 37 that were directed at him.

Josh Slegers scored the only goal of the night for the Lancers, while Dylan Butler was the hero for the Thunderwolves, scoring both goals to secure the win for his team.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers and the Thunderwolves came out hard from the puck drop, both teams trying to find a quick edge over the other. After several scoring opportunities on both sides of the ice, Slegers found the first goal of the night, sending a wrist shot soaring over the shoulder of the Lakehead goaltender.

The Thunderwolves came back hard, desperate to tie the game back up. The remainder of the period was played in the Windsor zone, but Reinhart put on an impressive performance to keep the puck out the net. Emotions ran high, with altercations breaking out in front of the net several times throughout the period.

The aggressive play continued throughout the second period, with strong defense being played on either side of the ice.

Lakehead was finally able to break through Reinhart's goaltending at the beginning of the third period to tie the game. Strong offensive play on both sides of the ice saw several scoring opportunities for both teams, but it was the Thunderwolves that found the back of the net once again to take the lead with seven minutes to go.

On their heels, the Lancers put on an offensive onslaught, but were unable to tie the game, obtaining their first loss to the Thunderwolves this season
