The Lancer women's hockey team dropped a pair of home games this weekend at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex. The Lancers fell 4-1 to Nipissing Saturday before dropping a 2-1 decision to Laurentian on Sunday.

SATURDAY vs NIPISSING
The Lancers took quick control of the game, with
Emma Welburn finding the back of the net early in the first period. Strong play by the Windsor defense saw the Lakers struggle to clear the puck out of their defensive zone, and good puck movement by the Lancers saw several scoring opportunities.
Â
Laker goaltender, Mercedes Chircop, managed to hold off the Lancer attack until a pair of penalties put Nipissing on an extended power play early in the second period. The power play saw Derenoski put the first points on the board for the Lakers, forcing Windsor into a panic.
Â
After finding their way back into the game, the Lakers began to create some offence of their own, pushing Windsor on to their heels.
Â
A goaltender interference penalty saw the Lancers start the third period down a man, resulting in a quick goal for the Lakers. As a result all energy left the Lancers bench as they struggled to create offense, despite spending much of the period on the power play.
Â
The Lakers managed to find the back of the net two more times before the end of the period, including an empty net, to win the game 4-1.
Â
SUNDAY vs LAURENTIAN
The Lancers started their matchup against the Laurentian Voyageurs with a strong defensive first period, with both teams containing the play to the outside. The period saw few scoring opportunities, but Laurentian's Taylor Weber managed to squeeze the puck past goaltender,
Molly Jenkins, to gain the early lead.
Â
The Lancers battled back and tied the game back up in the first minute of the second period, after a review between the officials overturned the original call of a no goal that was made on the ice.
Â
The Lancers applied heavy pressure in the following minutes, until a trip to the penalty box resulted in a power play goal for the Voyageurs halfway through the period. Laurentian took control of the closing minutes of the period but were stopped by the strong goaltending of Jenkins.
Â
Down by one entering the third period, the Lancers were determined to tie the game backup. An impressive display of offence was met by an equally impressive display of goaltending by Voyageur netminder, Shanna Dolighan, who managed to fend off the attacking Lancers to secure the game.
Â
At the final buzzer the score stood 2-1 for the Laurentian Voyageurs.
Â
Jessica Gribbon scored the sole goal for the Lancers off of an assist from teammate,
Olivia Lynch. Taylor Weber led the Voyageurs offence, scoring the team's first goal and obtaining an assist on the second.
