After being shut out by the University of Toronto Varsity Blues last Friday, the Lancers men's hockey team looked to redeem themselves as they hosted the Varsity Blues at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.
 
In their second matchup of the season, Lancers capitalized on their scoring opportunities to take the game 3-1, breaking their three-game losing streak.
 
GAME STATS
Despite being out shot 31-21, the Lancers goaltender Jonathan Reinhart limited the Varsity Blues to only one goal, ending the night with an impressive 0.960 save percentage.
 
Ben Assad, Jon Wesley and Trent Fox were the goal scorers for the Lancers, while Alex Friesen found his way on to the scoresheet with two assists.
 
GAME FLOW
The Lancers took control of the opening minutes of the game. While they contained the puck to the Toronto zone, they struggled to get past the Varsity Blues' defensive coverage keeping them to the outside and limiting their offensive opportunities.
 
The second half of the period saw the Varsity Blues create some offense off many breaks down the ice.
 
John Wesley got the first goal of the night five minutes into the second period. Minutes later, Nathan Hudgin scored the sole goal of the night for the Varsity Blues.
 
Finding themselves in the box, the Lancers were put on their heels as Toronto took control of the game.
 
After successful penalty kills, the blue and gold were rewarded with a couple of power play opportunities of their own and capitalized to take the one goal lead to end the period.
 
The suspenseful back and forth continued until Ben Assad found the back of the net, giving the Lancers the two-goal lead.
 
Reinhart, along with the Lancer defense, held their opposition off to take the game 3-1.
