Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's Volleyball sweeps Excalibur

The Windsor Lancers bested the Trent Excalibur in three sets on Sunday afternoon 3-0 (25-16 25-12, 26-24).

The win was key for the blue and gold as they continue to battle for the final playoff spot in the OUA west division.

GAME STATS
Paige Phills led all scorers with 11 kills, while Trent was led by Genna Saunders who had six on the day.

Amie Slawson put in a great defensive day, leading the game with 13 digs. Trent was led by three players who had five each, Carley Gougeon, Vanessa Aune, Cassandra Pilacinski.

Brooke Davis had a great day with 31 assists to lead players. The Excalibur were led by Heidi Hayes with 19.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers came out strong in the first set as they found their spots and defended well. The Windsor defense was so stifling they only allowed Trent three kills in the first set, forcing the Excalibur into a negative hitting percentage. The Lancers efforts defending by the net went a long way in the 25-16 set win.

The Lancers showed more of the same tenacity in the second set, coming out and opening a lead right out of the gate. It was Jade Zeibarth doing the offensive work early with six kills in the set. Ally Winik pitched in four kills too as the Lancers bested the Excalibur for the second set in a row, 25-15, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set was all green early as the visiting Excalibur tried to make sure their road trip didn't result in a sweep. Genna Saunders was huge for Trent with four kills in the set. The Lancers, for the first time in the match, went into a technical timeout trailing. Out of the timeout though the Lancers got some offense going. Paige Phills came up huge with five kills for the Lancers, who won the set despite never leading until the end, 26-24.
