The Windsor Lancers women's basketball opened the 2019 portion of their season on their home floor Saturday evening. The Lancers opened the game with a rough offensive performance but came up big in the second half to come back from behind and win the game, 75-65.

They are now 7-5 on the season and sit in third place in the west division. The Hawks drop to 4-8 and are in a three way tie with Algoma and Guelph for fifth.

GAME STATS
Kayah Clarke was all over the place, recording a double-double with a game leading 11 rebounds and 18 points. Clarke also notched four assists and a game high four steals.

The Lancers crashed the boards all night, out rebounding the Golden Hawks 40-28 for a +12 rebound margin.

The Golden Hawks attack was led by Rachel Woodburn who scored 17 points.

GAME FLOW
The Golden Hawks got at the Lancers early and worked their way to a lead. Laurier was led by the duo of Jill Condron and Rachel Woodburn, who had 10 points each for the Golden Hawks in the first half. Despite their lack of early offense, the Lancers won on the boards and got some things going towards the end of the half. Led by
Kayah Clarke's 14 points, the Lancers decreased the deficit to three at halftime, trailing the Golden Hawks 35-32.

In the second half, the Lancers picked up their offensive game and initiated a series of back and forth lead changes for the majority of the quarter.
Olivia Osamusali and Eve Ewayesu gave the Lancers a big lift with their interior defense and shooting. Windsor worked their way out to a five point lead before Woodburn hit a buzzer beating three to cut the lead to 52-54.Â

In the fourth quarter the Lancers leaned on Clarke and Osamusali to drive the lead home as they built their lead to nine as time winded down. The blue and gold locked down the glass and made the shots they needed to on route to a 75-65 win to open 2019.
