The Lancer women's basketball team had a tough weekend in North Bay, splitting their weekend series against the Lakehead Thunderwolves. The blue and gold fell 54-50 on Friday night before rebounding on Saturday to win convincingly 72-58.
Â
The split moves Windsor to 7-7 on the year and into third place in the OUA west division standings.

FRIDAY
Things got off to a rough start for the blue and gold as they struggled to find their offense early on in the first quarter. The Lancers were able to get a spark late in the frame to get within three but managed just six points in the second quarter as Lakehead extended their lead, going into the break up 27-16 over Windsor.
Â
The Lancers offense fared better in the third quarter, but still trailed 39-28 after three. The fourth quarter was all blue and gold as the Lancers came roaring back to make it game in the final frame.
Samantha Gucciardi was clutch for the Lancers coring most of her team leading 13 points in the later stages of the game. Despite the strong quarter, it wasn't enough as the Lancers fell to the Thunderwolves, 54-50.
Â
Leashja Grant led all scorers with 26 points and 11 rebounds for the Thunderwolves. Â Gucciardi also put up a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Â
SATURDAY
The Lancers came out looking like a much better team than Friday night and lead almost the whole way on rout to an impressive 72-58 win.
Â
The Lancers started slow but lead by the back court duo of
Eve Uwayesu and
Kayah Clarke, the Lancers began to heat up. While the offense wasn't scoring every trip, they did enough on the defensive end of the floor where they were keeping the hosts to just 29 per cent shooting. The Windsor offense picked up in the second quarter and the blue and gold extended their lead to 34-27 going into halftime.
Â
In the third quarter the Lancers extended their lead to double digits and then some as an offense that struggled early yesterday fired on all cylinders just 24 hours later. With the blue and gold up by almost twenty heading into the fourth quarter, the Thunderwolves made a run and had the Lancers playing hard to protect the lead. Lakehead got the lead down to nine but couldn't close the distance completely as the Lancers surged their way to a big road win, 72-58.
