Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Varsity Blues shut out Lancers

The Windsor Lancers women's hockey team hit the ice for the second day in a row looking to keep a strong start to 2019 going. Unfortunately, the Lancers offense didn't carry over from the night before and the Lancers fell to the Varsity Blues, 3-0.

GAME STATS
Despite the score, Molly Jenkins put forth a fantastic effort in net, stopping 38 of the 40 shots that came her way. Toronto's Erica Fryer stopped all of her 21 shots.

The Lancers struggled on the powerplay as well, failing to score on six chances. Toronto scored one powerplay goal of their five chances.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers, who pelted the opposing goal with shots last night had lost their offensive prowess as they struggled to put pucks on net and create opportunities. Goaltender Molly Jenkins did an admirable job in net, but faced 19 shots in 20 minutes of action. The Blues went up on an early goal from Stephanie Ayres just 1:35 into the game. Later, on a 5-on-3 the Blues scored again as Louie Bieman beat Jenkins just passed the halfway marker of the period.  The score held for the intermission as the Lancers went into the break down 2-0.

The Lancers pulled together on the defensive end and curbed some of Toronto's opportunities. Despite the improved defense Windsor still struggled to put pucks on net and really test the Blues goalie, Erica Fryer.  Late in the third period, down two the Lancers were armed with a 5-on-3 advantage and pulled Jenkins to get a three skater advantage. Unfortunately they couldn't capitalize and the Varsity Blues iced the game away with an empty net goal, 3-0.
