The Lancer men's hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to the McGill men's hockey program in their first home game of the regular season Friday night at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.
Â
The game is the first of a weekend doubleheader as the blue and gold move to 1-1 on the season. McGill improves to 1-2 on the year.
Â
GAME FLOW
McGill took advantage of their first power play opportunity of the game. Michael Cramarossa put the puck over the top of
Jonathan Reinhart's shoulder midway though the opening period to give the visitors a one goal lead.Â
Â
Windsor tied it up five minutes later when
Ethan Skinner scored his first of the season with a wrist shot top shelf on the blocker side on Louis-Philippe Guindon. The two squads went into the dressing rooms deadlocked at one after the first period of play.
Â
The second frame did not see any scoring, but there was plenty of action in the penalty box as the two squads put up for a combined 52 penalty minutes in the middle frame.
Â
In the third, the Lancers picked up their intensity and out shot the visitors 16-8 in the period. However, it was McGill that got the go-ahead goal at 15:33 of the period when Keanu Yamamoto and Antoine Dufort-Plante set up Blake Hayward with a perfect one-two-three.
Â
With the Lancers on the penalty kill for the final two minutes of the game, McGill managed to get a third past Reinhart with just over a minute to play to seal the victory.
