Coming off their first loss of the regular season, the Lancers bounced back to form with a 3-1 over McGill Saturday night at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.
Â
The Lancers scored early and found themselves on the right end of a good bounce as they split their weekend series. The win moves the Lancers to 2-1 in OUA play.
Â
GAME STATS
Jonathan Reinhart had another great outing in net making 31 stops on 32 shots. McGill's Emanuel Vella had a impressive night as well making 24 saves on 26 shots.
Â
Ethan Skinner's two points led all skaters with one goal and one assist.
Â
McGill outshot the Lancers 32-27 and almost doubled the Lancers shot total over the last two periods.
Â
GAME FLOW
The Lancers came out early and pelted McGill net with shots in the first period. In addition to the shots, the first period was physical with each team being assessed four penalties in the opening frame. Despite all the powerplays the first goal of the game was scored even strength when
Anthony Salinitri found
John Wesley for a goal that Vella had no chance on. The Lancers took a penalty with 25 second left in the period but made it to intermission in the lead, 1-0.
Â
In the second period Windsor leaned on goalie
Jonathan Reinhart with McGill tipping the ice and gaining the edge in shots. With McGill gaining momentum, they were done in when Vella made a crucial mistake playing the puck, accidently putting it in his own net, doubling the Lancers lead. Vella's first mistake of the game (credited to
Ethan Skinner) was the only goal of the period as the Lancers went into the final intermission up 2-0.
Â
McGill came out on fire in the third and just 53 seconds into the frame, Guillaume Gauthier found Dominic Talbot-Tassi in front for an easy goal. Reinhart came up big again in the third period, shutting the door after losing his shutout. Down just one goal McGill pulled their goalie but
Ben Assad ended any hopes of a comeback with a late empty netter, avenging last night's loss with a 3-1 win.
