Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Windsor's comeback falls short in season opener

In their 2019-20 season opener, the Lancer women's hockey team fell behind early and fell to the visiting Brock Badgers 3-2 on Friday night at the Atlas Tube Centre.

GAME STATS
Jaydin Spooner made 27 saves on 30 shots in the loss for the blue and gold, while Jensen Murphy made 21 saves on 23 shots for the Badgers.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers gave up three goals in the first period before making a comeback in the second period. The two squads were locked in a defensive battle for much of the opening period until Mishaya Christensen beat Spooner to give Brock a 1-0 lead thirteen minutes into the frame. Just two minutes later Sarah Brooks added to the lead before Christenson added her second of the game to put Brock up 3-0 at the first intermission.

The second period belonged to the blue and gold as they doubled the Badgers shot total. Windsor finally broke through when Darcee Hall beat Murphy to put the Lancers on the board just 28 second into the frame. Ashley Maitre put another goal on the board eight minutes later, taking a feed from Maggie Peterson and her sister Amy. Spooner shut the door on the Badgers in the second and at the end of forty minutes, Windsor only trailed by one, 3-2.

Windsor spent the entire third period looking for the tying goal but Murphy was a brick wall, stonewalling the Lancers in the crease. The blue and gold didn't help themselves late in the period, taking a couple penalties, and were unable to score the equalizer.
