Lancers fall to Lions at Hocktoberfest

Box Score As part of the Hocktoberfest international girls hockey tournament, the Lancer women's hockey team took on the visiting York Lions at the Atlas Tube Centre on Saturday afternoon. Despite a strong the effort, the Lancers fell 3-0.

On Saturday, the Lions got on the board first as Kara Washer gave York a 1-0 lead with just over five minutes left in the period. Jaydlin Spooner was solid in goal for the Lancers early on as the Lancers were outshot 13-2 in the opening frame.
 
The Lancers bounced back in the second period in what was an evenly played 20 minutes. Both goalies came up with a number of big saves in the second to keep the score at 1-0 after 40 minutes of play.
 
In the third, down just one goal, the Lancers sent a flurry of shots on net but were unable to beat the Lions netminder. The Lancers had a chance to even the game on a Lions penalty midway through the period, but were unable to convert before York's Courtney Gardiner beat Spooner to double the lead with just 3:28 left in the game. York sealed the game with an empty netter as the Lions earned the 3-0 victory.
 
Lancer netminder Jaydlin Spooner stopped 21 on 23 shots, while York's Vilde stopped all 19 shots she faced.
