The Windsor Lancers headed to York Sunday with an upset in mind, unfortunately the third ranked Lions proved their mettle, taking the game 1-0 on a flawless strike late in the match.
The loss moved the Lancers to 4-5-5 on the season, however, the blue and gold are playoff bound nonetheless.
GAME FLOW
The first half was tightly contested, with neither side willing to give an inch to the other. Both sides put one shot on net each but to no avail however as both goaltenders brought their 'A-games.' The Lions were the more aggressive side in the first half, taking four shots but being kept off the board. All in all, Windsor wasvhappy taking the winners of 49 straight games into a scoreless draw at halftime.
In the second half, goal keeper Sebastian Lee-Diagle may have had his best performance in net all season, making four saves in the second half alone. The keeper's effort kept the Lancers in it as they looked for a chance to break out and take the lead. In the 77th minute however, York showed what it takes to win 49 straight and put the Lancers upset hopes in jeopardy when Milan Beader had a flawless strike from approximately 20 yards out into the top opposite corner of the net. The late goal proved to be the difference as the Lions extended their win streak to a record 50.

Finishing the regular season in sixth place overall, the Lancers are headed to the first round of the OUA playoffs on Wednesday night when they travel to St. Catharines, ON to face the third seeded Brock Badgers. Kick-off is set for 8:15pm.
