Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Team effort lifts Lancers over Marauders

The Lancer women's volleyball team put in a full team effort to defeat the host McMaster Marauders 3-1 (25-23, 15-25, 27-25, 25-18) Saturday night in Hamilton, ON.

Windsor heads home with a 1-1 record following a pair of road game to open their regular season.

GAME STATS
Lexi Pollard had a stellar day on the floor, leading the blue and gold in almost every category. She finished the day with a team high 12 kills, 15 points and 10 digs. Hannah Camrass led the game defensively with 16 digs while also contributing 9 kills and 14 points. Ally Winik also put up 9 kills and 12 points in the victory.

The Marauders were led by Jessie Nairn with 14 kills, 12 digs, and 16.5 points.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers started out slow to open the match but came back and kept it a one point game until they went on a five point run just prior to the technical. Following the break, the Lancers jumped ahead again and held command of the floor until late in the set when the Marauders had a late surge to tie the game at 23-23. Thankfully, a kill from Pollard and an attached error by Nairn gave the Lancers the 25-23 win.

The second was all McMaster as they took an early lead and never looked back. Windsor played catch-up the entire game and were unable to string together more than two points at a time. The hosts easily took the second set 15-25.

Windsor came into the third a whole new team after making some modifications between sets. The Lancers used a balanced attack for the remainder of the game, keeping the Marauders on their toes for the final two sets. With the third set headed into extra points, the Lancers kept their composure and added some offensive pressure to take the set. They carried that momentum into the fourth, and used it to cruise to a 25-18 win.

QUOTE FROM THE COACH
"We made some adjustments between the second and third set to keep McMaster off balance," said head coach Lucas Hodgson. "We served tough and make them earn every point."

UP NEXT
Windsor will open the home portion of their regular season on Friday, November 1st when they host the Waterloo Warriors at 6:00pm at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse.
