The Windsor Lancers women's hockey team picked up their first win of the season with a dominant 5-1 showing on the road at York.
 
The Blue and Gold scored first and never looked back as they knocked the Lions off with a total team effort. The win halts an eight-game losing streak for the Lancers.
 
GAME STATS
Jaydlin Spooner was fantastic between the pipes, stopping 23 of 24 shots. York's Juliana Thomson made 19 saves on 22 shots.
 
Amy Maitre picked up two assists on the night. The Lancers outshot the Lions 10-0 in the final period.
 
GAME FLOW
The Lancers got things going in a hurry when Maggie Peterson beat York's Juliana Thomson just 10 seconds into the game to put the blue and gold up 1-0. The Lions pressured though the entire first period, out shooting the Lancers 11-7. With just under 2:30 to go the York powerplay proved too much and Kelsey McHolm tied the game and sent it into intermission 1-1.
 
The second period saw the Lancers score early again, this time it was Olivia Lynch lighting the lamp just 54 seconds into the frame to give the blue and gold a 2-1 lead. The Lions again outshot the Lancers but couldn't beat Spooner, who stopped all 13 shots she faced in the period to preserve the Lancers lead, 2-1.
 
In the third the Lancer defense was stingy, not allowing a single shot through to Spooner in the period.  With under five to go in the game the Lancers got the all-important insurance goal to go up 3-1 with Jessica Gribbon delivering the goods. Kendi Lundell and Tori Chenier each potted empty net goals to make the final 5-1 in favour of the Lancers.
