Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Lancers lose five-set heart breaker in Waterloo

The Lancer men's volleyball team lost a five-set heartbreaker to Waterloo 3-2 (25-14, 25-19, 20-25, 21-25, 13-15) Saturday afternoon.

The Lancers fell to 2-3 on the season while the Warriors improved to 1-4 on the year picking up their first win of the year in Saturday's afternoon matinee.

GAME STATS
Fifth-year Brad Gyemi led both sides in kills with 18 on the afternoon, while fourth-year Pierce Johnson also had a great afternoon contributing to the offense with 10 kills.  Veteran setter, Nolan Langley, picked up 32 assists in the losing cause.

The Warriors were led by Deman Dulat in today's matchup who helped them come away with the win.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers came out with a dominating performance to start off the first set and hopped out in front with a 5-0 lead. The blue and gold would continue to maintain control throughout the set running away with it finishing it off 25-14.

In the second both teams came out hot right out of the between set team huddles. Both sides would engage in friendly fire missing serves early on before finally the Lancers would break the spell with solid play allowing them to pull away with the second set.  However, the Warriors would not back down easily engaging in a much closer set this time around. The strong Lancer offence opened up a comfortable margin taking the second 25-19 despite the Warriors attempts to shrink the gap.

For the third set, this is where arguably the game was decided.  The Lancers established an early lead, but it was the Warriors who held onto the lead when it mattered for most of the third set and went onto take it 25-20.

The momentum the Warriors gained from the third carried on into the fourth set.  Although both teams traded service errors early on, the Warriors seemed to be in control throughout most of the set. Windsor managed to knot things up a 21 apiece late in the set. However, the Warriors were able to prevail in this set pulling away with strong play to take the fourth 25-21 and force a fifth and deciding set.

The Lancers came into the match fresh off a five-set thriller with Guelph two weeks ago while the Warriors were optimistic completing a major comeback at home and remaining in the hunt for their first win of the season. The latter was indeed the case despite solid efforts on both sides. The Warriors would grab a 4-1 lead early on and ride the wave getting to 8 points first before switching sides. The Warriors would continue to push the Lancers to the brink in which they could continue to taste their first victory of the season.  The blue and gold did not want to go home emptyhanded and remained within one point until the Warriors grabbed a 14-12 lead to put the Lancers backs against the wall.  Ultimately, the Warriors were able to edge out the Lancers by taking the fifth set 15-13 and the overall match 3-2.
