Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lancers rebound to defeat Thunderbirds

The Windsor Lancers fought their back into the win column Saturday evening with a gritty 90-81 road win against the Algoma Thunderbirds.

The Lancers jumped out to massive early lead and though the Thunderbirds almost came back, the lead proved insurmountable as the Lancers get back to .500 on the season at 5-5.

GAME STATS
Telloy Simon had a massive night, dropping 40 points on 67 per cent shooting. The Thunderbirds were led by Brandon Dwyer who scored 17 on 42 per cent shooting.

The Lancers had a great day from three-point land, nailing 59 per cent of their looks while only giving up 29 per cent on the other end.

Thomas Kennedy was a force on the defensive end blocking three shots and notching a steal on the night too.

GAME FLOW
After a lacklustre performance Friday, the blue and gold came out firing, opening the game on a school record 26-0 run. The Thunderbirds had no answers for the Lancers early, especially Simon, who scored 24 points in the first half alone on 69 per cent shooting. While the Thunderbirds tried to figure out how to stop Simon, they finally got their first bucket of the game almost halfway through the first quarter. Algoma out scored Windsor in the second quarter but was still down 50-32 at halftime.

The third quarter was all Thunderbirds as the home team tried to tear away the lead. Algoma's adjustments at halftime paid dividends coming out of the break, their offense found new life and the Lancers lead started to shrink. Fortunately, as Algoma heated up, the Lancers offense continued to hum along at a good pace. After seeing their 26-point lead shrink to three heading into the final quarter the Lancers took things into their own hands, knocking down some threes and scoring 30 points in the final quarter to escape with a win, 90-81.
